Alex Friend is a film editor with over a decade of experience working in documentary. His work has been featured on HBO, Showtime, BET, YouTube Originals, and in film festivals including Tribeca, DOC NYC, and Sundance.

He started his career as an assistant/associate editor on multiple feature documentaries for HBO, including Jane Fonda in Five Acts, Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution, and Very Ralph. He continued to hone his technical skillset working as a post-supervisor, managing post workflows and delivery while providing editorial support for films like Kevin Garnett: Anything is Possible (SHO).

His most recent feature edit, Fault Lines, a documentary on the U.S. housing affordability crisis, premiered at the 2025 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.

In addition to his editing work, Alex teaches classes at The Brooklyn Edit Suite and has served as a guest lecturer at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema at Brooklyn College.

In his spare time, you’ll likely find him flipping through records before a show or running around Queens to find his new favorite food.
